Since Thursday night I have not gotten much sleep. I had contractions that started at 7pm on Thursday and lasted straight through until I had Benjamin Saturday morning. After I had him I thought maybe I would be able to get some sleep but I was wrong. Between things happening to me and Benjamin there was no time for sleep. So between Thursday night and Monday night I got about 6-8 hours of sleep total. Which I personally require about 8 hours of sleep a night to be a content, nice and happy person. Yet here I am functioning on very little sleep. Last night was a great night though. I got a 1/2 hour block, 2 hour block, another 2 hour block and an hour block. So 5 1/2 hours roughly which was great! After the 1st 2 hour block Jared and I both woke up feeling so great. Benjamin hadn't stirred or made a peep in his bassinet.
This morning we are letting Benjamin chill on his toy pad. He is really quite content and having fun looking at things and reaching for them some (I'm sure it's not totally on purpose).
Sleep!?! Hilarious! Jacki and I haven't slept a full night in 3 1/2 years. It will get better though, I promise. I hear they sleep great as teenagers.

ReplyDeleteShame on you for spilling all parent's secrets. You are always supposed to let new parents THINK they will get some sleep soon. Sometimes it is all that can keep them going. And, since we are all spilling secrets - once they are teenagers - the lack of sleep continues with being sure they go to bed SOMETIME before 1am, and then waking the pleasant souls up at 5am for seminary...haha - maybe when they all leave for college - Valerie
Emily....He's adorable! I can't wait to meet him! And sleep....Jared will get more of it, you on the other hand had better get used to being awake! Just kiddin! Well kinda :-) You'll just be the one expected to get up and take care of him! I guess as Kenny says.."You asked for it!" Heather
ReplyDeleteHang in there guys! Not gonna lie, the first few months are the hardest, but it does get better! JR sleeps most nights through the night and some nights he only wakes up around 5 or 6 for a few minutes! It will get better, I promise! I know a lot of parents who have sleep trained their kids really well and they sleep through the night around 6-9 months. Also, you will get used to the lack of sleep!
ReplyDeleteThe lack of sleep actually never ends. When they are older teenagers you lose sleep because you wonder who they are out with, how and when they are getting home and heaven forbid you hear a siren.
ReplyDeleteWhen they go to college you lose sleep wondering how you are going to pay for all of it. It is at those times you only wish they were back in their to being tiny babies where you only concern was changing their diaper and feeding them.
Don't worry though...it is all totally worth it! There is nothing in the world that will give you more joy or satisfaction than raising your children. Especially when they make the right choices.
Good luck! Your little (big) one is adorable!!

I'm sleeping fine these days. Nothing to disturb my night and it only took about 30 years from the birth of my first.
