Serving My Country

I made breakfast this morning (eggs with salsa, plain eggs, bacon, juice, doughnuts) for my brother Ed and his family plus Mom and Rudy. We sat down and we were eating and Ed says to me "You know Em you are serving your country by feeding me right now!" I laughed and thought to myself that's funny. I'm glad I could serve my country in such a little way by feeding my brother.

imagine...a secret room

Remember when you were a kid and you would imagine wonderful possibilities like...being able to fly, finding buried treasure or being able to win once at a wrestling match with your brother? Do you still let yourself imagine things?

At work from time to time when I go to the bathroom there is a particular stall next to the wall that has large tiles on the wall. I sometimes imagine that if I figure out the right combination of pressing the tiles that a secret room will open and inside will be a plush room with a sofa, chandelier, Jacuzzi tub and a massage table. There are days where I wish it could come true! A massage and a bath sound divine.

Forgot I was on the phone

My brother is home!!!!! I love my brother Ed so much! He is an amazing guy. He works hard for his family and pushes himself to be the best he can be. He has high expectations and has a huge heart. No matter how sentimental I get he still smiles and hugs me.

I got to see him for a little bit on Wednesday. I took him our Jetta to borrow for while he is here. I walked in and saw him and just started to cry. For those who don't know he has been stationed in Germany for a few years now and is going to Afghanistan soon. I hugged him so tightly and was just crying tears of joy. I was on the phone with Jared which was abruptly interrupted when I saw Ed and he reminded me I was on the phone. Which of course made me laugh.

Below are some pictures of Ed and I. I cannot express how much I love my brother or how proud of him I am. I am grateful for his love and his service. He is amazing!!!

not a good wife

A friend sent me the below in an email and I just cracked up! I am obviously not a good wife.
Reason's why...

  1. Dinner is hardly ever ready and I certainly don't think a day in advance about it.
  2. I never rest myself and beautify myself just for him. I've got him already why do I need to fuss?!
  3. If I'm not already gay enough I don't know what else I can do.
  4. Clutter! I'm the queen of clutter not keeping it clean. He refers to me frequently as hurricane Emily.
  5. Can't have a fire ready for my husband! Need a fireplace!
  6. No small children yet but one is on the way.
  7. I'm not always happy to see him.
  8. When he gets home I want him to please me.
  9. I hardly ever let him talk first.
  10. If anyone is out it is me.
  11. My house is definitely not a place of peace and order.
  12. I always have complaints and problems for him.
  13. If I make dinner and he is late he will hear it.
  14. He can make himself comfortable.
  15. I hardly ever speak in a low soothing voice.
  16. I always question him!
  17. I know my place and it's right where I am!!!

I'm in a pet store

Sometimes my office at work feels like a cage. My door and window are all glass and I usually have the door closed. So people can just pass by and look in at you or keep walking by. It's almost like the puppies in the pet store (except I don't press my nose against the glass and I'm certainly not as cute).

We will get groups of people visiting in the building and for some reason they are fascinated by the offices and will stand outside people's office pointing and talking about what they see. That part really makes me feel like I'm in a pet store.

Some day's I miss my old office when I could close the door and the blinds and no one could see me and I couldn't see them. I am easily distracted by people walking by all the time. My hallway picks up in the late morning hours through early afternoon.

Don't get me wrong I love my office. It's beautiful, clean and light but I wish people wouldn't stare.

a ton of bricks...

12 weeks and I get the flu! Yesterday hit me like a ton of bricks. My body ached, my head hurt, my sinus were stuffed, eating and drinking were a chore and throwing up was great fun.

Luckily I was working from home so it was a little better. I tried to nap a few times but was not able to due to hurting and just staying awake for some dumb reason (usually I can force myself to sleep pretty well).

Jared got home and I called the Dr. and they prescribed some Tamiflu. Which is helping tons today. I feel quite a bit better, still no real appetite just eating toast and drinking apple juice.

I told Jared yesterday that I would take Morning Sickness/Nausea any day over the flu.

I can't believe it's 12 weeks. Can you? I really love watching the baby grow on my blog. It's cool to think my baby kind of looks like that. It seems to make parts of my pregnancy more real. I've got my next appointment next week. :)

favorite moment...

11 weeks along today. Can you believe it? I can't! I'm just so excited to be pregnant and feel so blessed to bring a child into this world. The throwing up seems to be getting worse before it gets better. Which is fine that first trimester is almost over which many say is the threshold for morning sickness.

My throwing up is more triggered by my gag reflex and my constant flem congestion due to my allergies. Does the gag reflex get any less sensitive?

My favorite moment of throwing up has to be Sunday night! Jared and I were driving home from our friends house on the Hwy. I was feeling pretty nauseated but thought I could make it home. Boy was I wrong...almost immediately after getting on the Hwy I said pull over. I grabbed the handle and my seat belt and tried to get myself out the door far enough and fast enough to not throw up in my car. I made it! Jared said he didn't pull over and stop as soon as he did because there was a mailbox and didn't want me throwing up next to it so people didn't have to see it when they got their mail. Thoughtful Jared even as his wife is about to ruin their car.

What's your best throwing up story?
